Notable contacts were... 04-22-18, 19:00 pm The Norfolk Amateur Radio Club held the International Marconi Day event on Saturday and saw 116 other radio amateurs in 23 countries contacted. Notable contacts were made with stations in Italy, Ireland, Weston-Super-Mare and Poldhu, Cornwall - home of the Marconi Centre from where the inventor made the first transatlantic transmission in 1901. The radio club was based at Caister Lifeboat to commemorate the village's original Marconi Wireless Station, which was set up in 1900. Its original purpose was to communicate with ships in the North Sea and the Cross Sands lightship. View article »

Dewar and his friend Bernard Cormier are taking part in a 24-hour worldwide event to celebrate the birthday of Guglielmo Marconi, the person who pioneered long distance radio transmission. The event is organized annually by the Cornish Amateur Radio Club in the U.K. To register, groups must transmit from a location that has a connection to Marconi. Over the course of 24 hours, those groups attempt to make contact with each other. View article »

Marconi pioneered the first amateur radio and experimented with wireless communication in Binghamton. Members of the Binghamton Amateur Radio Association, or BARA, connected with Marconi fans around the world through their ham radios. The Museum of the History of Science at Broad Street became a pop-up communications hub for the day on Saturday. Together with the Oxford and District Amateur Radio Society, the museum invited youngsters and their families to celebrate the birth of radio pioneer Guglielmo Marconi at the free educational day. Mr Marconi was an Italian inventor and electrical engineer who was known for his work on long-distance radio transmission as well as his development of 'Marconi's law' -- the relation between antenna heights and signaling distance of radio transmissions. A small group of students at Salado Intermediate School contacted the International Space Station by radio in front of an all-school assembly Tuesday morning, the culmination of a year-long science and technology program organized by teachers Colleen Gilchrest and Laura Tomlin. The students chosen to speak with Tingle, a U.S. Navy captain and engineer, read out questions that they had written followed by questions submitted by their schoolmates. "How do you all get along in space, even though there are people from all over the world, over," Morgan asked. "We get along with a lot of patience and a lot of tolerance," Tingle replied. "We train together ... we get to know each other and each other's families pretty well." Gilchrest said she first learned about Amateur Radio on the International Space Station when she and three other teachers attended a conference at the Johnson Space Center in Houston in February 2017.
